Hinata was waiting patiently, albeit nervously in the small courtyard of the Hyuuga estate for her elder cousin. He had arranged to help her grasp some of the Hyuuga's more advanced techniques. She was greatful for the gesture but in truth she was so nervous about spending time with her cousin that she was certain she was going to mess things up and embarrass herself infront of him. She saw Neji a lot these days and often served him tea when he was spending his free time with her father at the main branch house. She hadn't done any training with him, or any other Hyuuga for that matter, for a long time and the last time she came into physical contact with Neji, he had been trying to kill her during the chuunin exams. no doubt this day would be awkward on both of them but already she was nervous and he wasn't even there yet. She sat on the steps at the end of the walkway around the house and played with her fingers as she anxiously awaited Neji's arrival.

As Neji neared the home of his uncle Hiashi, his mind wandered farther and farther from his training until nothing remained of it and his thoughts were all swept clean in a tide of unpleasant memories. Memories of his bitterness and resentment towards his own clan. Hatred for Hiashi. Hatred for Hinata. A passionate hatred that had almost consumed him, along with a few other innocent lives that he had imposed it upon.
But the times had changed, and he had long since learned the truth and forgiven them of all his misunderstandings. He hadn't gotten here through his own wisdom, however, but through a heated battle with the wisest of shinobi. He had been in the darkness for so long before this man, his comrade and savior, had sent him down the path to enlightenment and redemption. For this he was grateful, and forever in his debt.
A warm breeze blew through the trees, and it seemed to relieve him of his bleak past. A weight had been lifted from his soul, and now he soared higher than ever. He was happier, and, on top of it, his skills had grown in leaps and bounds. He had even earned the rank of Jounin, and was the pride of his clan for it. As a leaf fell from the tress overhead, Neji reached out his hand to greet it and it landed in his palm. A smiled game across his otherwise emotionless face as he remembered the man who had saved him from the darkness. "Naruto," he thought, coming to a stop on the path. "Will you return to us?"
Had Neji been an emotional, reminiscent person, then a tear or two might have been shed. But he wasn't, he was a shinobi after all. His strength rested in not just his natural genius, but his unique gift of coolness and passion. He missed Naruto, but he wouldn't show it. With a shake of his head, his training returned to his thoughts and he continued down the path. It wasn't long before he was entering the compound and was before Hinata. "Forgive me for being late, Hinata," he apologized, taking a gracious bow. "Shall we begin now?" His footing shifted in a second, and he assumed his stance, smiling.

Hinata bowed politely in greetings to her elder cousin. "It's good to see you cousin," she said respectfuly. Neji was taller than Hinata last time they fought, she had grown since then but he still seemed to tower over her. She nodded in agreement when he suggested the begin imediately. He was an intimidating figure, with his fierce Hyuuga eyes, as he took the gentle fist stance. She was scared, terribly scared of the fight that was to come, even though she knew it was merely training. She would not show him this fear, she knew his keen eyes would read her body stance and know she was scared so she would emulate Naruto, something she had taken to doing when she was scared. She thought of his bold confidence in his exam match with Neji, how despite knowing Neji was a genius and a brutal opponant he had maintained his ideals and defeated him. She moved her body so that she too was in the gentle fist stance before taking a deep breath to prepare herself. She awaited Neji's attack, knowing the foolishness of rushing headlong into a fight. She was going to show him that she was strong, just like Naruto.

As Hinata assumed her stance, Neji gave a nod. With that, his footing shifted and his entire form spun around. The hand which had been in the back now guarded his front side, and the other swung in from the side to strike. It was a basic attack, and he expected it to be blocked with little effort. It's true purpose was to start the flow of battle, but the chain of blows that would follow would show what these two fighters were made of. "Remember, Hinata, there is no holding back. Do not be afraid to come at me with killing intent."

Hinata swiftly her more forward arm to push his up out of the way, he was starting things of nice and simply but Hinata had always struggled to attack with intent to kill. She was too kind even though she knew it was the only way to be more like a ninja. She was going to prove to Neji she could be strong and brave. She stepped forward with her block and struck towards her cousin’s mid-drift with a chakra imbued palm. Like his attack it was conservative, leaving room to be defensive if the need should arise. It was likely he’d block the attack as she had done his but she added some force into it. She couldn’t convince herself to try and kill her cousin but she could convince herself to try and hurt him.
